ISIS (Beowulf Cluster)
Theoretical astrophysics today often means number crunching in complex numerical simulations. The simulations of our group members, when executed on a typical desktop-PC, would often take weeks, month or even years to complete - just too long. On the other side, buying old-style supercomputers is very expensive. Therefore, since 1999, we build and administrate our own "supercomputer", the low-cost, high computational-power Beowulf cluster ISIS. Steadily evolving and growing bigger, it contains at the moment about 60 Processors.
